Body Art Quality 2 Henna from Pakistan: (almost gone!) This henna has slightly lower dye content than others in the group, the sift isn't quite as fine as the others. On light colored hair, BAQ2 makes a sweet copper red with strawberry undertones. Its reliable pure henna: no chemicals, no sand, no junk ... good body art quality henna at a good price. Henna is good for you and your hair, and you can use it as often as you like!

Mehandi.com sends our best hennas to an independent lab for lawsone content testing, full pesticide assay, and testing for other contaminants. We have already tested several hennas hennas, and within six months we expect to have completed testing all of our hennas. What we have found is that 1/10 of 1% makes a lot of difference in lawsone content, and that no two batches of henna, even from the same supplier and the same crop are exactly the same!

The henna from Yemen has 2.4% lawsone, and goes deep reddish auburn with multiple applications, and will completely cover gray.
Purity has 2.3% has a slightly more brownish cast, but doesn't cover gray quite as well.
The henna for African hair has 2.2% amber undertones which compliments brunette hair.

We haven't gotten all the lab results back yet, but Punjabi Prime is the best "true Irish redhead". Body Art Quality 2 from Pakistan is a sweet, light red. If you want lighter, more coppery reds, mix henna with cassia.

Store-bought henna is usually between .5% and 1.5% lawsone content, and may have contaminants, sand, lead, pesticide residue and additional dyes. Because henna is an agricultural product, every batch is different! Henna has safely colored and conditioned women's hair for at least 6,000 years. It does a lovely job!
Henna has tannin in it. These tannin molecules bind into keratin (hair) molecules and make the fibers physically stronger, like winding threads together to make a stronger string. After you henna hair, it is softer, stronger, tangles less, and the split ends disappear.

Traditionally, henna was believed to have the quality of "Baraka" meaning "blessedness" or "grace". It was believed to be able to avert the evil eye and thwart demons that caused disease, depression and misbehavior. Your regular hair dye never did that for you!
