Ancient
Sunrise ® Rajasthani Twilight is stringy and very easy to work with.
When you first mix it up, you might hear gritting. This is not sand! Laboratory microscopy shows that this is not sand, but fragments of calcium oxalate
crystals. Calcium oxalate is naturally produced by some henna plants. Spinach,
kiwi fruit and tea leaves also produce calcium oxalate. Calcium oxalate
is natural and harmless in henna paste, and it may correlate with higher dye
content henna. The calcium oxalate dissolves in lemon juice and
terps, so though you may hear gritting when you first mix up the henna, your finished paste will be very smooth. We sent Ancient Sunrise ® Rajasthani Twilight out to our test group, and each of the artists found this henna gives very dark stains, often going black on fingertips and palms, and dark brown on arms and legs. Though the artists found occasional clogs, these seemed to be only thick spots in the paste, and not sand or coarsely sifted material. If you're using a cone and find a tiny thick spot, just pinch it out. If you're using a jac bottle, strain your paste before using. | ![]()
