Ancient Sunrise CMC Powder Indigo Thickener

Use 1/2 teaspoonful of Ancient Sunrise CMC Powder per 100g of Ancient Sunrise© indigo, The texture of indigo paste is more difficult to handle than henna paste, and can be a nuisance when dyeing your hair. If you add CMC powder, the texture is much easier to work with. CMC is carboxymethyl cellulose, a product of cornstarch, often used as a thickener. It will help smooth out your indigo paste.

Adding CMC to Indigo
Put your dry indigo powder into a bowl, and add in the dry CMC powder.
Use a half-teaspoonful CMC powder to thicken 100g of indigo.
Stir the dry indigo and CMC powders together. The CMC powder
must be completely dispersed into the indigo powder, or it will
form thick lumps that cannot be stirred out.
Add distilled water to the indigo and CMC mix and stir until the mix is thick and creamy.
CMC powder will make your indigo mix more manageable, and will help prevent
little trickles of indigo water from separating out of the paste and running down your neck.

Great Product for Indigo Hair Dye
I had been informed of this product when I first started using indigo dye & henna many years ago. I had convinced myself that there was no need for the CMC powder and it probably was just another way to make a sale. I hennaed my hair & then used the indigo hair dye w/o the CMC powder. The entire 2+ hours that the indigo sat in my hair, I was constantly wiping dripping blue water from the sides o

CMC Powder – a great addition to indigo hair dye
I dye my graying brown hair every 2 to 3 weeks with a combo of henna and indigo powder to get a dark brown. I weigh the indigo and henna in grams on a scale to get (essentially) the same results every time. My ratio is about 30 g henna and 25 g indigo. I have long hair. I prefer adding CMC powder to the indigo mix portion before mixing the two together. (Please note I mix henna 6-8 hours ahead o
