PPD sensitization

PPD sensitization
Ancient Sunrise® provides permanent, non-fading hair dye for people who are allergic to chemical hair dyes. Our products are pure powdered plant leaves, completely free of the chemicals which cause allergic reactions to chemical permanent hair dye.

There is an epidemic of allergic reactions to oxidative permanent chemical hair dye: para-phenylenediamine sensitization. As of 2015, I estimate that there are 150,000,000 individuals who have been sensitized to para-phenylenediamine (PPD) in chemical hair dye. Most of these people are also cross-sensitized to related chemicals found in every permanent oxidative chemical hair dye. Many of these sensitizations are severe and potentially fatal, and were caused by exposure to high levels of PPD in ‘black’ temporary tattoos and cultural use.

According to a broad study presented to the British Association of Dermatologists’ Annual Conference in 2015, the para-phenylenediamine sensitization rate in children has risen from 8% in 2008 and 16% in 2015, and is continuing to rise. As these children become adults by 2025 and decide to dye their hair, or consider using hair dye to cover gray by 2030, one in five will have an allergic reaction to the chemicals in oxidative chemical hair dye. These one in five people will need to use a hair dye that has no coal tar derivatives, or they will risk a severe allergic reaction. They will be able to safely use Ancient Sunrise® to color their hair and cover gray.
